Crowdfunded
preorder deposits

From your first request to allocation, shipping, and refunds. Know what happens next and when you need to act.

A paid preorder request does not guarantee product.

We pass customer requests and deposits through to distribution. Our distributor decides how much stock we receive, so your final allocation may be full, partial, or zero.

1–4 weeks before release

When we usually confirm allocation and refund shortages.

7 days to arrange shipping

Choose and pay from the date of the first shipping-options email.

30-day abandonment process

Auction and refund timing starts with the abandonment email.

01

Your preorder, step by step

We collect customer preorder requests and deposits, then act as a pass-through to distribution: we combine those requests into the order we submit to our primary distributor, and your deposit helps fund that order.

The distributor decides how much product to send us. We may receive everything requested, a reduced quantity, or no product at all. Payment confirms your funded request; it does not guarantee product.

  1. REQUEST WINDOW

    Submit your request and payment

Get your complete request and required payment in before preorder requests close. Your invoice will state its payment deadline.

  2. USUALLY 1–4 WEEKS BEFORE RELEASE

    We confirm your allocation

Your allocation is the final quantity we can provide from our distributor’s confirmed supply. We email your quantities and issue refunds at that time for any paid quantities distribution cannot fulfill.

  3. RELEASE DAY, SOMETIMES UP TO A WEEK BEFORE

    Watch for your shipping-options email

When your allocated product is ready for shipping arrangements, we email the available services and costs. Choose your service so we can issue the shipping invoice. An early options email does not promise shipment before the permitted release date.

  4. WITHIN 7 CALENDAR DAYS OF THAT EMAIL

Choose your service and pay for shipping

Confirm your address, select a service, and pay the resulting invoice. The deadline runs from our initial shipping-options email. An approved storage arrangement may extend it. If payment is completed, we ship when the product is eligible for release.

If the shipping deadline is missed

We send an abandonment email, close the original transaction, and begin the auction process: MyCurio.us starting at $1, then eBay starting at $1 if the first auction does not produce a completed sale. The process usually takes 14–30 days. Refunds are generally issued approximately 30 days after the abandonment email, with the sold and unsold calculations explained below.

Preorder deposits are held in a separate account and are not used for any other purpose.

02

How we divide limited product

When our distributor sends less than we requested, we start with proportional allocation, then use store-support metrics to determine final quantities.

First: a proportional starting point

We compare the quantity received with the total quantity requested for that product. That proportion gives us a starting point for dividing the available inventory among customer requests.

A simple example

If our distributor supplies 50% of the requested quantity, a request for six boxes starts at roughly three boxes. This is a starting point, not a guaranteed allocation.

Then: store support and available whole units

Boxes and packs must be allocated in whole units. When quantities need to be rounded, remaining units need to be assigned, or supply is especially limited, we use support metrics to help determine the final allocation.

Relevant factors include:

  • Membership status and total preorder volume.
  • Event attendance during the previous 30 days.
  • Support for the applicable game or product category during the previous 30 days.
  • Overall store support during the previous 30 days.

Your final allocation may differ from the proportional starting point. Customers who do not actively support the store or the applicable product category may receive a reduced allocation or none at all. Membership, support, and payment do not guarantee product.

Which inventory counts toward your request?

Preorder requests apply only to our initial allocation, also called the first wave, from our primary distributor. Later waves, secondary distributors, and other supply channels are separate from this preorder allocation.

You may see additional product for sale after allocations are finalized. Its price may be higher, lower, or the same, depending on acquisition cost, source, and market conditions. That inventory does not increase or reopen a previously finalized preorder allocation.

Your allocation email is the final quantity confirmation

Once we finalize your allocation, later inventory does not change it. A payment receipt or layaway receipt is not an allocation confirmation.

03

Packs, boxes & sealed cases

These rules apply to Magic: The Gathering, Pokémon, Disney Lorcana, and any other preorder products we offer. Always check whether the listing and invoice use packs, boxes, cases, or another unit.

Why some special boosters are offered by the pack

For certain special or limited booster products, we may accept preorder requests by the individual pack instead of by the box. Magic: The Gathering Collector Boosters are one example.

We do this when supply is expected to be limited. Taking requests by the pack lets us divide a small allocation among more people, rather than having to allocate only full boxes to a smaller number of customers.

Enough packs for a box? You will receive a sealed box.

If you request enough packs for a full booster box and we can allocate that full box quantity to you, you will receive a factory-sealed booster box. For allocations containing multiple full boxes plus extra packs, each complete box quantity will be supplied as a sealed box, with the remainder supplied as individually sealed packs.

If we cannot allocate a full box quantity, you may receive only the individual booster packs allocated to you. Each pack is still factory sealed. We refund the deposit paid toward any packs we cannot fulfill.

This applies to products offered by the pack. A pack-based request is not a guarantee of a full box, even when the number requested equals a box.

Example: a Collector Booster product with 12 packs per box

Request 12, receive an allocation of 12: you receive one factory-sealed booster box.
Request 12, receive an allocation of six: you receive six individually sealed booster packs and a refund for the six unfulfilled packs.
Pack counts vary by product. Check the specific listing for the number of packs in a box.

Requesting a case

Clearly request a case or list the full number of boxes, packs, or units normally contained in that case. Case quantities vary by product, set, and game. A case request is treated as a request for that total number of individual units.

A factory-sealed case is not guaranteed. If we can allocate the complete case quantity and sealed cases are available, we will make every reasonable effort to keep yours sealed. This also applies when a pack-based request equals a full case.

If your allocation is reduced, you receive the allocated units and a refund only for the unfulfilled portion. For example, if you request a six-box case and are allocated four boxes, you receive four boxes and a refund for two.

04

Invoices, deposits & payment

Preorder deposit invoices are typically sent within 24 hours of your submission and must be paid by the earlier of 24 hours after issuance or the preorder request deadline, unless we approve a different deadline in writing. Both your request and required payment must be received before requests close. Paying confirms your preorder request, not a guaranteed allocation.

Accepted payment methods

  • ACH transfer: the standard method for preorder deposits. Payments may take several days to clear.
  • Credit or debit cards: not accepted for preorder deposits unless we specifically approve an exception.
  • Bitcoin: may be approved for deposits under $2,500. You must request approval before paying; it is not an automatic payment option.
  • Other methods: only when specifically approved by Curiosity Video Games.

Bitcoin refunds are store credit only

Except where applicable law requires otherwise, any refund connected to a Bitcoin payment is issued as Curiosity Video Games store credit, not Bitcoin, cash, ACH, a card refund, a check, or another cash-equivalent payment. Only use Bitcoin if you accept this condition.

Once payment clears, we send a layaway receipt. It confirms receipt of your deposit. Your final allocation is confirmed separately by email.

Unpaid or failed invoices

If you miss the deposit payment deadline, or payment fails because of an issue on your end, your invoice may be automatically canceled. We may decline future preorder requests from your account unless the reinstatement fee is paid.

The non-refundable reinstatement fee is $25 or 10% of the unpaid invoice total, whichever is greater. This fee must be paid by credit or debit card. Future preorder deposits still require ACH, approved Bitcoin, or another specifically approved method.

05

Refunds, cancellations & product delays

Before our distributor confirms allocation

We cannot issue voluntary cancellation or change-of-mind refunds between the time you place your deposit and the time our distributor provides our allocation. Your request and deposit have been committed to the distribution process. Pending allocation, another retailer receiving stock sooner, or a lower price elsewhere does not create a cancellation option under this policy.

When final quantities are confirmed

  • Fulfilled in full: your entire deposit is applied to your order.
  • Partially fulfilled: you receive the allocated quantity and a refund of the deposit paid toward the unfulfilled portion.
  • Not fulfilled: your eligible preorder deposit is refunded under the original payment terms.

We issue allocation-shortage refunds when we process the confirmed allocation and send your allocation email. Unfulfilled quantities do not enter the abandonment or auction process, and no resale-loss or storage deduction applies to those quantities.

If you want to cancel after allocation

Contact us as soon as possible. We will make every reasonable effort to reallocate your product to another guest. If another guest takes over and pays for that allocation at the original price, we can refund the amount you paid toward the successfully reallocated product.

If we cannot reallocate it, an immediate change-of-mind refund is not available under this policy. You must wait until release, when you may ask us to start the abandonment and resale process. That process can result in a reduced refund, as explained below. Requesting cancellation does not extend your shipping deadline unless we approve an extension in writing.

If distribution cancels or delays your product

We intend to fulfill the quantities confirmed in your allocation email. Manufacturer, freight, and distributor delays can affect arrival. If we cannot meet the stated shipping timeframe, we will notify you and provide any legally required option to agree to a delay or cancel for a refund. If we learn that we cannot fulfill your allocated product, we will refund the unfulfilled portion.

For a supply delay extending more than 30 days beyond the originally scheduled release date, we will issue the appropriate refund for the unfulfilled portion unless you agree to continue waiting. Any earlier refund rights required by law still apply. A supply delay or our inability to fulfill an order is not customer abandonment.

How refunds are issued

Eligible non-Bitcoin refunds are generally issued by ACH transfer or mailed check, unless another method is specifically approved or legally required. Bitcoin-related refunds follow the payment terms above, subject to applicable law. A refund being issued means we have initiated it; bank processing or mail delivery can take additional time.

06

Pickup & shipping

Pickup: allocated product may be collected in store during normal operating hours once it is available.

Shipping: include a complete, accurate shipping address with your preorder request. Shipping is not included in preorder pricing unless the invoice specifically says otherwise. You are responsible for the shipping cost.

We normally send shipping options on release day, and sometimes up to one week beforehand when the product is ready for shipping arrangements. The email provides the available services and costs. We issue your shipping invoice after you choose a service. Shipment follows payment clearance and any applicable release restrictions.

One seven-day deadline, starting with the first email

You have seven calendar days from our initial shipping-options email to choose your service, confirm your address, and pay the shipping invoice. Waiting to reply, delaying your selection, or receiving an invoice later does not restart the clock. The exact deadline will be stated in the email.

An approved storage arrangement may extend the deadline. You must expressly request the hold and receive our approval in writing before the deadline. A hold request alone is not approval. If our delay in issuing an invoice prevents timely payment, we will adjust the deadline to account for our processing time.

Please monitor the email address and phone number you provided, including your spam folder. You are responsible for accurate contact information, a complete address, and timely payment. Our shipping-options email will also provide advance notice of the intended resale process, including the relevant auction timing and location. Any additional notice required for a resale will be provided.

If the deadline passes without shipping payment or an approved hold, we send an abandonment email and close the original transaction. The auction and refund process below then applies.

07

Holding product for a later shipment

We may hold ready product to combine it with later-arriving product, subject to available space. You must explicitly request this service and receive written approval. Simply placing another preorder does not create a hold.

Your original invoice sets the storage charge

Any applicable storage rate, the items or pack groups it covers, and the maximum charge per item for a 30-day period must be disclosed in the details of your original invoice. Only those disclosed charges apply. Rates may change for future requests as our space needs change, but your charge will never exceed the rate or per-item cap quoted for your order.

Storage applies to product already available for you that you ask us to keep beyond the normal seven-day shipping window. We do not charge storage for product that has not arrived, or for delays caused by our own processing.

  • Billing: storage is invoiced with your shipping charges or every 30 days, whichever comes first. The invoice details specify how any partial period is charged.
  • Payment: a separate storage invoice is due within seven calendar days of issuance. An unpaid storage invoice ends the approved hold and triggers the same abandonment, resale, and refund process below.
  • Ending the hold: we confirm your shipping arrangements and the applicable shipping payment deadline in writing. Additional holds require our approval.

Previously paid storage charges are never deducted a second time. During an abandonment period, the combined storage charges billed or deducted for that period cannot exceed the original invoice’s per-item cap for 30 days.

08

Abandoned orders: auctions & refunds

This process applies when you miss the shipping deadline, fail to pay an approved hold’s storage invoice, or ask us after release to end an allocated order that we could not reallocate. It applies only to the affected items.

The abandonment email closes your original transaction

Once we send that email, we cannot complete or reinstate the original transaction for those items. Later payment of the old shipping invoice does not restore your allocation. We send the items through the resale and refund process instead.

  1. ABANDONMENT EMAIL · DAY 0

    MyCurio.us auction starts at $1

We identify the affected items, confirm that the original transaction has closed, and immediately list the items through our own auction system on MyCurio.us with a $1 starting bid, after providing the required advance auction notice. This email starts the 30-day refund clock.

  2. IF THE FIRST AUCTION FAILS

    eBay auction starts at $1

If the MyCurio.us auction does not produce a completed, paid sale, we list the items on eBay with a $1 starting bid. A bid or unpaid winning auction is not a completed sale.

  3. USUALLY 14–30 DAYS

We complete the resale and reconcile the refund

The auction process typically takes 14–30 days. We generally issue the refund approximately 30 days after the abandonment email, or sooner if the sale and its costs have been finalized. We provide an itemized explanation of any deductions.

  4. UNSOLD AFTER 30 DAYS

We issue the refund with only the capped storage deduction

If there is still no completed sale 30 days after the abandonment email, we issue a refund of the amount you paid for the unsold items, less only the applicable, unpaid storage fees for those 30 days. The storage deduction cannot exceed the per-item amount stated in your original invoice details. We do not keep waiting indefinitely for a sale.

How a completed resale affects your refund

Your refund is based on what you originally paid toward the affected items, reduced by any documented loss between their original purchase price and the net proceeds of the completed resale. Net proceeds account for actual auction or payment fees and any reasonable shipping costs not paid by the new buyer. We also account for expenses saved because the original transaction was not completed.

Any separately disclosed, reasonable unpaid storage charge may also be deducted within the original invoice’s cap. The same fee, shipping cost, or storage charge will not be counted twice. A refund will not exceed what you paid for the affected items or be reduced below zero.

Example: $100 originally paid, $70 auction sale

If the completed auction brings $70 and actual selling fees are $5, with no unrecovered shipping costs, storage charges, or saved expenses to adjust, the refund is $65. The $35 deduction covers the $30 resale shortfall and $5 in selling fees. This is an example, not a fixed restocking percentage.

If some items sell and others do not

We apply the completed-sale calculation to the items that sold. At the 30-day cutoff, unsold items receive the unsold-item refund described above. No estimated resale loss or auction-fee deduction is applied to unsold items under that rule. Storage stops accruing for this abandonment process at the 30-day cutoff or earlier when the relevant items are sold or refunded.

Once we issue the unsold-item refund, the original transaction for those items is settled. A later sale does not reopen it or create a new deduction from that refund.

We conduct resales in good faith and in a commercially reasonable manner, including the required notices. These cancellation and abandonment terms do not limit a refund or cancellation right required by applicable law. If an earlier refund, a full refund, or another refund method is legally required, that requirement takes precedence.

09

Before you submit

Check the preorder deadline

Every product has a submission deadline listed in its product listing, announcement, or preorder notice. Both your request and required payment must be received before that deadline. Late requests may be ignored and will not be forwarded to our distributor. Check the deadline before submitting.

List each product clearly

Use quantity + game + set + product type, with one product per line. Replace the bracketed set names in these examples:

2x Magic: The Gathering · [Set name] · Play Booster Boxes
12x Magic: The Gathering · [Set name] · Collector Booster Packs
1x Pokémon TCG · [Set name] · Booster Box Case
2x Pokémon TCG · [Set name] · Elite Trainer Boxes

Only request products in the units offered for that preorder. Include all products in one submission rather than sending several fragmented requests for the same preorder period. Requests missing a clear quantity, game, set, or product type may be ignored.

Include these details

  • First and last name.
  • Email address and phone number.
  • Complete shipping address, if shipping is needed.
  • Your complete, formatted preorder request.
  • Confirmation that you have read and accepted these terms.

Please read the full policy before submitting.

Submitting a preorder request confirms that you have read, understood, and agreed to all terms on this page.

Request a Preorder Invoice

Complete all required fields below. Review the preorder terms above before submitting your request.

Leave this blank if you plan to pick up your order in store.
Include all requested items in one submission.
By entering the correct answer, you confirm that you understand the following: submitting or paying for a preorder does not guarantee fulfillment; you will be invoiced for your preorder request and must pay the invoice within 24 hours; we submit your request to our distributor, and the distributor determines our final allocation. Allocations are usually provided to us one to four weeks before release. However, if distribution is delayed, we reserve the right to wait up to 14 days after the release date before determining whether your order can be fulfilled. Any amount paid for product we are unable to fulfill due to distributor allocation will be refunded.
